Thought some folks might be interested in a hike I took last week. Started on the Dry Creek Trail out of Roaring River campground, hiked down into the SF of Roaring River from the junction of Dry Creek Trail and Grouse Point Trail and then hiked down Roaring River to the mouth with a stop at Parrywinkle Falls.

Overall it was a great hike with beautiful weather and nice, forested scenery. I was hoping for some better views of the Clackamas River on the steep climb out of the canyon but the nice big trees were a good trade-off. Vine maples were just starting to turn color. As reported earlier the trail seemed in nice shape although I moved some branches in spots that seemed to have fallen recently.

I did find a water bottle at the trail junction 3 miles from the trailhead. Just a cheap sports bottle but if it's anyone's on here I'd be happy to return.

If you are interested there is a trip report with some pictures at:

  • Pete, I think the water bottle belonged to one of our Boy Scouts. We hiked up from the camp back in June, on a fiercely hot day. We took a lunch break near that junction, then turned back. Later a boy noticed he was missing his bottle. It was too hot for this out-of-shape guy to go up that steep trail again; sorry for the litter. Too funny you found it!

No need to return it; I've got a bag of them. Give it to a kid if you like.

How is the trail along the river? I had heard that the canyon had stretches that couldn't be navigated, but I have never explored it.

(edit:) Never mind! I read your blog, and it sounds like there isn't a trail. You basically walked down the creek!
