I have worked dilligently on this trail a few times over the summer.  The route is now easier to follow, but is still vague in places.  I'd say the first 2 miles are readily followable, but you do have to climb over many down trees.  The route is also flagged, so if all else fails follow the flags.  Go check it out before the snow starts falling!  It's a very nice place, and you really feel like you're "out there".

  • Which end is the easiest to follow?  It looks like is starts from road 4671 and ends at 4672?  Sounds like an interesting hike.  Since I really liked the fish creek "trail" (not really a trail, but it follows the creek), this sounds like an interesting one.

Another question:  According to the USFS sheet, it gains/loses 1800' in elevation.  That seems like a lot since it follows a creek.  Any other comments on the trail?  Sounds like a good candidate for a hike before snow starts falling.....

    Thanks for posting the info

    • My clearing efforts start from the lower end.  It appears that hunters have cleared about a mile of the upper end, so I guess the choice is up to you.  The middle mile or so will be the most vague.

It does climb a lot, but the grade isn't bad.  It was a well built trail.  The down trees are a bit of a pain, but managable.

It's a very nice area, lots of old trees and solitude.  If you do go, please post your experiences.

      • This will be on my list for a fall hike.  That and Dickey Lake (a tip another backpacker gave me when we were at Big Slide Lake).

I will definitely post my experience once I go.  I just hope I can fit it in before the snow comes too much.
