Has anyone been up the 6310 Road up to the Granite Peaks area recently and knows about the road conditions and snowline in that area? I was planning on heading up there this weekend to get away from the fireworks in town and haven't seen any postings for that area on this website as of yet. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

  • Should be accessible.  Last I heard the snow level was around 4000' but it's probably higher now due to the hot weather.  You may encounter trees across the road though.

  • Did a quick recon of the Granite Peaks area today. If you haven't checked it out already, Road 6310 is open all the way to the jct with 4670.

Made an interesting discovery while up on Granite though. Just below the summit on the west side, at the south edge of the upper clearcut, I stumbled across an ancient but fairly well defined trail. There was no flagging or blazes. It ran south towards Rho Ridge. Could this have been part of that orignal trail system or is it a remanent from early Native American use? Any thoughts Donovan?

      • The 1930 Jefferson Quad shows a trail over and around Granite Peaks. Starting from the southwest at where 6310 crests the Rho Ridge Divide running NNW just below the NE side of the first two peaks, E of the north most peak and below it a few hundred feet, then west along it's north side and west down a ridge, missing the west peak completely. It is shown as a secondary trail.
Don Presley may know more about it.
I have never looked for it because I figured the rather brutal road building up there would have taken most of it out with it's large cuts and tumultuous side cast.
        Sounds like it's worth exploring.
