  • Memaloose Lake and South Fork Mountain

I wanted to do a little exploring before my backpacking trip in a couple of weeks, and wanted to see how much snow has melted.  I went up road 45 quite a ways, and the good news is that the snow is quickly disappearing.  I hiked up to Memaloose lake and then up to South Fork Mountain.  The trail to Memaloose is in great shape with no snow.  There is a little bit of snow at the lake in spots, but most of the campsites are basically snow free.  The trail up to South Fork has snow in places, but again, it isn't too bad.  The trail itself is in OK condition, but there are a couple of blowdowns that are tough to navigate around.  The snow was on the trail in difficult areas, so you had to pay attention to where it was going.  Had to scratch my head a couple of times.  Up on top, there was little snow, but the road up to South Fork had drifts of 18-24" on it, so that won't be clear for a little while.  All in all a great day with beautiful weather!
