Trail Advocates
Trail information and maps from trailadvocate.org - on your phone, and available offline.
Open beta: it works and has been tested on the trail, but it is still being developed. If something doesn't work as expected, tap "Send feedback about the app" at the bottom of the app's home page.
Installing
The app isn't in the Google Play Store, so Android asks you to confirm a couple of things the first time.
- Tap Download for Android above. If your browser warns about this type of file, choose Download anyway.
- Open the downloaded file - from the download notification, or your phone's Files / Downloads.
- If Android says your browser isn't allowed to install apps, tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source, and go back.
- Tap Install, then Open.
The first start needs an internet connection: the app downloads the trail information, info sheets and GPS tracks (about 25 MB) so they work offline.
Updates
When a new version comes out, the app offers it under the menu bar - tap Install. The first time, Android asks you to allow installs from the Trail Advocates app, the same way as in step 3.
Offline maps
Trail pages, info sheets and tracks are stored automatically. For maps without a signal, open Map, then the download (↓) tab, and download the areas you need before you go.
