  • Lake Lenore burn area - photos

Here are some photos I took today of the area burned by the Lake Lenore fire.  These were taken from Big Slide Mountain (1,2,3) and the Welcome Lakes trail (4,5).

  • Thanks for posting the pics.  Doesn't look too bad, and it obviously didn't get to Lake Lenore or up to the lookout.  I'd love to get back up in that area again....

Just curious, but what route/trails did you take?
    • Re: Lake Lenore burn area - photos (#)
    • Rob, the route was:  Elk Lake Creek trail to Welcome Lakes trail to West Lake Way trail to Schreiner Peak trail.  About 15 miles round-trip.

      • Cool route.....The trails must be open again.  I'd love to do it before the snow falls, but I doubt I'll make it.

That detour to the northern Elk Creek trailhead is a killer, though!

        • The detour does make for a long drive, although it does have some nice views.  Here's a couple of shots I took yesterday morning along the way.  1, 2

          • Looks like you got an early start!  I did take the detour early this year, when we went to see the "bridge to nowhere".  It is very close to the Northern end of the Elk Creek Trail (a trail I've never hiked, but want to).  I'm still trying to decide what hike I'm going to do this weekend, as it may well be the last one for a while.  They are saying snow all the way down to 2500' tonight!

          • Doug,
I'd like, with your permission, to put that Lowe Creek(?) view towards SiSi, etc, on the homepage.

            • Donovan,

Yes, of course, you're welcome to use that photo, or any of mine, for that matter.  Would you like me to email you the original full-size version?
