  • Sean,

Been a couple of years since I did this and I did a trip report on it at portlandhikers.com but that site and the report has gone away. Up to the old lookout the trail is in great shape. Beyond that it is an up and down roller coaster ride through dense rhodie thickets and rock outcroppings - one of the most difficult bushwhacks I've ever done. I had to criss-cross the ridge frequently to go around stuff and the old phone line just about decapitated me a couple of times. I never made it to the end at the Bonanza TH and as soon as I was clearly above the Bonanza trail I jumped off the mountain - it was that steep - and got out of there. Lost the the nails on both big toes. I gave up hiking for a while after that one. Lost a HD video camera in a rhodie thicket - ripped it right out of my hand, where it went, I don't know - $1100.00 down the drain. If you go up there and find it, let me know.

May be as a day-and-a-half hike it could be done without too much pain and suffering. Don't let me scare you off it, just be aware of the challenges you'll face.
