  • Whetstone Mountain Trail - 546

I hiked part of the whetsone mountain trail on Sunday, hiking to the peak of Whetstone Mountain.  It was quite a hike, and for anyone who likes variety on a hike, this one has it.  It starts out in a relatively new clearcut, then goes through old growth, new growth, dense forest, sparse forest, a rock slide, a couple of small meadows, and finally the peak with some outstanding views.  I didn't hike the whole trail, and when I have more time, I'd like to explore down to Sliver King lake (looks interesting), but this was a nice hike.  Very interesting area.  One note:  It appears as though there area bears in the area, so be careful.

  • Bears!  Boy howdy...I've seen more bear poop this summer than ever, must be because of all the huckleberries.  Others have reported the same thing.  It's a good thing bear attacks around here are mostly nonexistent, they seem to be docile creatures.

Never been to Whetstone, but have been curious.  Thanks for the info.  Yeah, Silver King Lake does look interesting, but there's only so much time in the summer...

    • Too many trails, not enough time.......I haven't done much hiking this summer except for the Dickey Creek trip, which was awesome.  Of course, I prefer hiking in the spring and fall when it is cooler, and less crowded.

That was the first time I saw bear scat.  I even took a picture to make sure it was what I thought it was.  I also need to sharpen my huckleberry finding skills....
