The violence of nature has been hard on the Cripple Creek Trail this year.  We could use some help picking up limbs and repairing the tread.  We have started sawing the downed trees out. We certainly have our hands full. It is a wonderful trail on sunny Winter days.  Our sunniest Winter trail.

  • I'll try to get out there, usually get to that trail a couple times a year.  It's been sort of hard to get out this winter tho....  It is a nice one, and you did a good job rescuing it from oblivion.  One of my favorites.

The snow level must be pretty low on that one these days..

    • We went about half way up with no snow.  The southern exposure melts that side off pretty high.

      • Went up there last Friday.  You did lots of work on the lower 1/2 of the trail, many sawed out logs and few down limbs, thank you.  I also found a map on the trailhead with a date from a few days earlier marked on it.....

The upper part between F.S. 130 and 4635 was a mess.  I cleaned most of the blowdown, but there are about 6 big trees down across the trail.  Got to the rockfield and the snow was too deep to continue.

Was this trail especially hard hit this year?  I'd estimate 70% of the upper trail was covered by branches...also don't think I've seen so many big down trees.
