This is a small red leather-bound field notebook belonging to Vernon Bailey, 1897, Department of Agriculture, Washington D.C. The cover label reads "1897 Oregon Washington." The notebook contains handwritten field notes recording a naturalist survey expedition through Oregon, Washington, and adjacent states, with daily entries noting locations, elevations, plant species, bird species, and mammal species observed. The notebook also contains a Plant Catalogue for 1897 with numbered entries, an expenses account, distances traveled, and addresses.
