What trail am I on? Spring 2013 edition
R
It wasn't that easy. I started to think of all the places I know of in the district with big boulders like that - you already posted Double Peaks, so I thought Potato Butte, but the view is wrong, so I started thinking, and then thought about the Rimrock overlook. You caught a very unique perspective in that photo.....
OK, on to a new photo.
This is on a current district trail - what trail is this narrow, steep section located?

Reminds me of Cripple Creek.
R
kirk said Reminds me of Cripple Creek. No, you are too far north. This photo is a little deceiving - it is pretty steep - steeper than it looks.
K
So when you said it's a "current" trail, does that mean it's signed at the trailhead by the FS?
R
kirk said So when you said it's a "current" trail, does that mean it's signed at the trailhead by the FS?OK, I'll give another clue. This trail does not have a "trailhead" per se - it starts from another trail. And I don't believe there is any signage (at least there was none when I visited last which was a few years ago). The trail is not hard to find, however. It does appear on the trail listing here, and also on the FS website (or it used to - the new site is impossible to find anything).
K
Skookum Lake Trail?
R
kirk said Skookum Lake Trail? You are still a little too far north. And west

Potato Butte?
Did I guess that already?
R
Donovan said Potato Butte? Did I guess that already? You are getting closer, but that isn't quite right - you are moving in the right direction.
K
You said it's really steep, right? Well I seem to recall that the trail to Double Peaks is super steep. I've never been there when there was snow around though.

Yes, that one section is SUPER steep. That was the only place that still had snow when I went a few years ago. Your turn to post a photo.
K
Okay, here you go. Where trail am I on?
D
Is there a spring nearby, behind you?

K
Donovan said Is there a spring nearby, behind you? Don2Well, there was a rather wet area behind me as a matter of fact. I didn't really notice if it was a spring though. I'll have to explore it more thoroughly next time I'm in the area!
D
Are you on the Hillockburn Trail on the eastside of the South Fork of the Clackamas or whatever they call that trail? I have been on it once from the top down, not from the bottom like you guys have been exploring it.
Don
K
Yep, you've got it. We didn't make it too much farther after crossing that wet area Donovan mentioned.
Your turn!

I guess I should check this webpage more often. This photo was taken from a current district trail.

That looks like a Cripple Creek kind of a mess.
I think there are a couple of sizable areas of laminated root rot up there.

It isn't the Cripple Creek Trail. A hint, this photo maybe 3-4 years old.
Don
D
Clackamas River Trail.
Did we fix that? I can't remeber.
