I hiked this trail (road) back in early February of '03. Still snow on the ground. Made it real tough. Started at the gate on FS road 2209 and spent the night at the Skyhouse. Continued up the trail (road) the next morning and made it half way up Battle Ax before I ran out of steam. The trail (road) was covered with downed trees. No views. My opinion.....best part of this route is the begining and the end. Nothing spectacular in between. Next time I think I'll try dropping down and exploring Battle Ax creek.
