I was up on the Red Lake trail yesterday, I made it about 1/4 mile past where the gated road turns to trail (past the bushes back into the trees)  There I encountered snow covering the trail six to eight feet in depth, making it impossible for me to pick the trail back up at that point. The 380 road is clear all the way to 4220 and that is still snowed in about a mile up from where 380 ties in. Also, the 4671 road has heavy snow at the 4200' level, and 7020 has snow at around the 3200' level.  It was very nice to see the high country again, yesterday was beautiful. I will bet we have another month or so before the rest of the snow melts from our trails up there!

Justin: Thanks for posting these conditions.  I can't believe it is almost mid June and we still have snow at 3200'!!!!  Even 4000' is pretty low for this time of year.  I'm hoping I can get back out in the woods soon....And I'm hoping that we get some warmer weather to melt some of that snow! It has been a while since I did the west end of the Red Lake trail, but I didn't remember it starting out as an old road.  Maybe my memory is just faulty....I did the east end of it about yaer and half ago, but it has been probably 6 or 7 years since I did the west end.

I drove up to Graham Pass today from the Collawash.  It's mostly clear of snow up to the intersection with 4670, but is still snowed in not too far beyond that.  4670 is also still snowed in.  I hiked the Rho Ridge trail north for about a mile without much trouble, but then ran into deep snow and turned back.  The trail south from Graham Pass was pretty much snowed in so I didn't attempt it.

Any news out there?  Lots of snow up at Gov Camp under the trees, I assume it's the same in the Clackamas.  FS website says 3000' n. facing, 4000' south facing.  Also says 58 is open but not sure how that's possible!  Wonder when the road towards Hideaway will open?  Probably July at this point...what a weird few years these have been.

I saw a post on the portlandhikers site that said the road is blocked about 3/4 mile from hideaway lake by snow.  A little before that was a downed tree blocking the road, but other than that, I've not heard anything about the snow level or road conditions…. The snow is still REALLY low!  It is late June! Where did you see the conditions on the FS site?  I can't seem to find anything on there since the "new" site got rolled out....

How did you find that page?  I tried by clicking around and finally stumbled across it from another link - you would think it would be a link on the left side.  And a date would make it a little bit useful  With the infrequency that they update the site, not having a date makes it much less useful. Only one way to find out about Black Wolf Meadows.....Road Trip!

Found it by following a series of sub-links.  It's buried. Taking the family out camping so I kinda need to know what to expect beforehand ifyaknowhwatimean!  Probably be safer to just stay low.  DEEP snow towards Squaw Mtn. a couple weeks ago.

Anything under 3000' is probably safe.  That is a really weird statement for late June!  Usually we can get to pretty much everything by now, with maybe a few snowdrifts in the shade...... I'm hoping I can get out this weekend - first time in a while.  Not sure where I'm going to go, but I really need to get out!

We need to plan a Trailadvocates camp some time this summer.  August?

I have been told the road to Olallie has been plowed to the resort. Dickey Creek is accessible and Pansy "should be by now". D

Went up to shellrock this weekend with the kids. Snow is a foot to 2 feet deep in the shadows of the trees and ridges. But the road is clear to the trailhead. We camped two nights and the kids enjoyed the snow as well as swimming in the lake. A few people w ran into tried to go beyond up t Frazier but I saw several turn back and pitch tents at shellrock.

Did you see how the road was past the trailhead?  I'm wondering if you can get to Cottonwood Meadows or Rimrock? The good news is that it seems things are finally melting out.....It is almost July!!!!

I hope all you that could get out last weekend did, for it was great weather and almost felt like summer had finally made it's appearance in the upper reaches of the Clackamas. On Saturday I went up to  Oak Grove Butte making it to about 4100 feet before I had to stop and walk the last 1/2 mile or so in the snow. I believe the turnaround spot was at the 5710 020 road. Once on top, the peak was bare of snow and the view was well worth the effort to get there. From the looks of snow on Fish Creek Mtn., Granite Peaks and others, it may be a few more weeks before some of the higher roads and trails clearup totally. Don

i didn't get much past the shellrock lake trailhead but the road was pretty clear to that point. And it looked clear up and around the bend ahead. How high are those other areas? Sorry I have been to neither. -d

Looking at the map of the Cottonwood Meadows trail, it looks like you have to pass about 4500' to get to those trails.  It looks like the Shellrock Lake trail is about 4200' or so. Thanks for the update.

Ah - I would think the road would be clear to that point - judging just by the ammount of snow melt I witnessed on the road over the few days I was there. Most of the snow we witnessed was within the ridge shadows and under the trees. -d

Got up to Black Wolf Meadows on Sunday and hiked over to Anvil to test the waters.  The meadows were super soggy as to be expected and the section from the trailhead to the meadows was more stream than trail, but overall I was ecstatic to make it up there after being unable to two weeks ago.  Anyone know why the 5810 is closed?  I am assuming logging operations, but am not 100% sure...
