What trail am I on? Spring 2013 edition
D
A geolgical element.
R
I was going to guess Granite Peaks (there are 3 of them), but I have no idea what lake that could possibly be.
D
Close enough!
It's Lower Rock Lake.
Your turn.

R
Well, I don't think I was that close, but....I've only been to lower rock lake once, probably 11 years ago. That must be why it didn't look familiar to me.
Anyway, here is another photo of an interesting tree (at least I thought it was interesting). It was taken on a current trail. What trail is this unique tree on?
K
But watchout next weekend, for I have joined those who have retired from work, come Friday. Then I won't be looking at this screen, for I will be where the power cord can't reach. Out on the trail. DonHappy retirement, Don. Hopefully I'll be able to retire before I kick the bucket, and spend more time out on the trails. Kirk

Rock Lakes close enough to Granite Peaks! What's that 11 miles as the crow flies. I know I sometimes get tired of it to Donavon. I kind of thought that might be Indian Ridge in the background after you mentioned there was a lookout in the area, but I knew I didn't have another photo to post, so I bailed on that one. I could post photos of abandoned trails, but who has been on them except Murphy and me or one or two people I have shown then to.
Thanks Kirk. Laying in a hospital bed a few months ago, I didn't think I would make it to retirement either, but today I moved my toolbox home.
Rob, that tree looks familiar, is it in one of the new wilderness areas?
Don
R
Don - Congratulations on your retirement - I'm very jealous..... Someday maybe I can join you if I'm not too old to hike.
As to your question - yes, it is in a new wilderness area, and I know you have been on this trail.
Also, even if I haven't been on the abandoned trails, I love seeing photos of places I haven't been.
D
Hmmm.
For some reason I am thinking Dry Ridge.
Don 2
Retired from Retirement and back to work.
R
Well, Dry Ridge is close, but not quite right.
D
Is that tree on the Rimrock Trail by chance?
Don
R
Donald Presley said Is that tree on the Rimrock Trail by chance? DonYou would be a little too far south.
B
How about 517 Cripple Creek - Grouse Point trail?
R
Bryon Boyce said How about 517 Cripple Creek - Grouse Point trail?Still too far south - one more clue - this is a lightly used trail.
D
Huxley Lake Trail?
Don
R
Donald Presley said Huxley Lake Trail? DonYou are getting warmer
D
The only other trail which we haven't mentioned would be the Corral Springs Trail!
Don
R
Donald Presley said The only other trail which we haven't mentioned would be the Corral Springs Trail! DonThere is at least one other trail (further north) that hasn't been mentioned. Or if it has, I missed it. Remember, this is a LIGHTLY used trail. VERY lightly.
D
That can't be the Old Baldy Trail?
Don
R
Donald Presley said That can't be the Old Baldy Trail? DonWell, I suppose it COULD be, but it is not. But you are on fire now. REALLY close! Remember, I said LIGHTLY used trail.
D
You said it was a current trail in a new wilderness area. That leaves out the Fanton Trail for it is outside the wilderness boundary. The Old Bissell Trail is considered abandoned. So that only leaves the White Iris Trail and only part of it is in the wilderness boundary. I include a portion of our district map with new wilderness boundaries in green and trails marked in orange that I cleared a couple of years ago.
White Iris Trail?
