What trail am I on?
R
Bryon Boyce said Here's a wild-eyed guess - I haven't been on the trail in about 25 years. The Bagby Trail 544. 2300 ft. would be a bit past the hot springs.I was thinking about that, but it doesn't seem to fit for two reasons:
- As far as I know, the Bagby trail doesn't start as a road
- The Bagby trail has 2 trailheads (north and south)
B
Not Bagby, continue going northwest. The trailhead is unmarked, when I said 'dug deep', it didn't mean it was obscure, just that I had forgotten about hiking the trail as far back as I did.
ill try another hint, the first part of the trail goes through a recent (<10yr) thin. It's on a paved road.......
R
I'm still stumped....Paved road? Wilderness? Starts as an old road? 2300'? And NW of Bagby?
Are you sure it is in district? Does the trail appear on the trail list here?
R
OK, after some more thinking - I think I got it - Hillockburn. That seems to match all your criteria (except that is more north than northwest). And I'm wondering if that section is the area near where you bailed off downhill to see the upper falls?
B
Bingo!
R
So I guess that means I need to post a photo. OK. I don't think I've posted this one before. This is on a current district trail in a wilderness area. What trail is this interesting rock formation on?

B
Is it in Bull of the Woods?

No one wants to guess - I'll give one clue - it is a relatively short trail with not a whole lot of elevation on it. It has a neat destination at the end.
B
I've spent very little time in BOTW, but I'll guess Dickey Lake
R
Good guess, but the trail is longer than that. It isn't a really short trail, but it isn't all that long either (not like Elk Lake Creek or Bagby). Oh, I guess I just eliminated a couple of trails from the running!
B
Is the neato ending BOTW lookout?

OK, it is obvious due to the lack of interest that people are bored with this, so I will answer my own question. This rock formation is found on the Bull of the Woods trail. Neat trail that should be accessible in the next few weeks I would think due to the low snow this year.
If anyone wishes to post a photo of a trail, please do. Or, we can put this on hold for a while.
B
Sorry, I haven't hiked any of those trails, and I'm out of photos anyway.
B
Actually this thread is amazing considering the small number of active participants.
Lets see of this one piques some interest.

I don't think I've ever been on this trail, but I'll take a stab at it.
Is Opal Creek down in the bottom of that valley?
B
kirk said I don't think I've ever been on this trail, but I'll take a stab at it. Is Opal Creek down in the bottom of that valley? The stream at the bottom of the valley joins the Clackamas. This is a telephoto shot so everything in the distance seems closer. From past posts here I think most of the audience here has been on this officially abandoned trail.
K
Well maybe I have been on this trail then. Is that the silhouette of Mt. Jefferson in the hazy distance?
D
Nice photo. Too bad our eyes can't do that.
My guess is that you are on the Baty/Joyce Lake Trail.
