The photo was taken just before Big Slide Lake, I am pretty sure I was on the trail, but in that depth of snow it was difficult to tell.  The lookout is somewhat visible in the distance.  I will have to watch what file names I give the photos on future postings....  Photo was taken in March, gogeous day, I was pretty impressed at two backpackers I ran into who camped overnight at an ice/snow covered Big Slide Lake.

I hiked part of Dickey Creek in February last year, and was amazed at how little snow there was then, but I can't imagine backpacking in March!  WOW!. The creek crossing must have been rather challenging as well.  That creek gets going pretty good in the winter. I was able to barely make out the lookout on the ridge in the distance, but the file name was a dead giveaway.

Good guess, Kirk.  It's the Rho Creek trail, not too far from the remains of the old guard station.

You gave good clues about the creek and the road. I just got lucky that the topo map shows those two features. I'm assuming that the creek pictured is Rho Creek not too far from its headwaters? I'll have to find a picture to post now.

Seeing how everyone is out there hiking and enjoying are dismal summer so far this year and not posting on this website, I thought that I would post a photo of a trail I had hiked within the last month to get the conversation rolling again. This trail is a current district trail and is in one of the new wilderness areas. The day was one of those hot steamy July days, I believe in the 60's and with fog no less. Don

Looks like Old Baldy Trail to me. My camera bends the trees there too. Maybe a vortex.   Donovan

You are correct. I was up there in the middle of July, seeing how many trees were down on the trails in the area. It was one of those misty/rainy days. My walking stick has a bend in it, so it just fit right in. Your turn to post a photo. Don

Here is another photo of a current trail in our district. It is in a wilderness area. Don

I'll take a guess. Was the photo taken from the Dickey Creek Trail?

  Right drainage, wrong trail. Don

How about Bull of the Woods Trail?

That would be correct Kirk. Amy and I hiked the Pansy Lake-Bull of the Woods-Dickey Lake loop back in the mid of July. There were still quite a few snowdrifts back then. There was a lot of snow still just above Dickey Lake.   Your turn to post a photo. Don

In the original photo... does the peak that is left of center and has the cloud shadow on it have a name?

I believe that is Pasola Mtn. Kirk. Don

Here's a trail picture for your perusal: Where am I?

Well, that doesn't ring any bells with me, but based on the fact it is rather sparse trees, and there appears to be burn damage, I'm going to guess it is in the Olallie area somewhere.  And since the trail seems pretty well used, I'm going to just hazard a wild guess that it is the PCT?
K
You are right. Can you be more specific if I give you another picture from the same place?
R
I'm guessing that is the meadow that we went through on our hike in July, just south of upper lake where the PCT takes the big turn?
K
You are correct again.   Does anyone have an idea as to what causes the soil movement in the meadow? I was thinking it was heaving caused by freezing temperatures, but I'm not sure.   Do you have a new picture for us?
R
Since there hasn't been any responses for over a month, I thought I would post another photo.  This photo may not be on district land - although if not, it is VERY close - so the hint is that the trail is on the edge of the district somewhere.
