What trail am I on? Winter 2011

Doug:
Is that a section of the Bagby trail past the hot springs?

No, but you're in the right neck of the woods.

Looks to me like that sheltered hole at the beginning (west) of the Whetstone Trail.

It does, doesn't it? That's because it is. You're right, so it's your turn now.

Darn. Now I need to find a picture.
That particular hole is interesting to me for it's variety of trees. The largest Yellow Cedar I recall are in there. Sheltered from fire. Wind. Well watered.

Can you give us any hints? Current trail, abandoned trail, in old or new wilderness (or not)? Looks like an interesting place.

The view is looking up the seasonal creek the trail crosses. Next to a four way junction, one leg of which piddles away.

D
Would that be the Cache Meadow Trail?
D
Yes Don. The last 20" of it.
Your turn.

I totally guessed on that one. Now you are going to make me work to find another photo to post. My problem is that many of the people who post on here regularly, I hike with. So we have shared experiences and photos, making it hard to find a photo that they don't have. It may take a while, but I think I might have something. Don

Here is one that I hope isn't too easy. It is a current district trail, and I believe that this section of trail is in a wilderness area.

D
Here is a closeup of that cliff in the background taken from the same spot on the trail, only I zoomed in a little with the camera. It is a trail with very few viewing areas, so when you see one you tend to stop and take it in. I thought the view of the cliff might jog someones memory.

R
I am going to take a guess that it is the Old Baldy trail. I haven't been on that trail for quite a while, and only hiked it once, but I do remember only a few places with views and that sort of rings a bell.

Rob you are correct. The photo was taken from a saddle just to the east of Githens Mtn on the Old Baldy Trail, that I took a couple of summers ago. So while your looking for another photo to post, I will be heading up the Clackamas to find someplace to hike and hopefully take a few photos, for I have exhausted my supply. Not sure where I am going, but I am sure I will find someplace go. With all the football games tomorrow, I thought that I should get out today. Don

OK, here is one. This is a relativelly short trail that is lightly used (I'm pretty sure about that). It is not in a wilderness area:

D
From the looks of the trip hazard about 10 yards down the trail, I would say that it doesn't see a lot of maintenance. Is this a current district trail or one that has been abandoned?
R
As far as I know, it is still a current trail. It shows on our listing of trails, and I haven't heard of it being abandoned. As I said, I'm pretty sure it is a lightly used trail. It has an interesting destination on it. It is a relatively short trail.
R
OK, there hasn't been much interest on this one, so I'll give another hint. This trail has a lake somewhere on it, and one other point of interest that is rather unique.
K
How about Round Lake Trail? That's a short one.
