So I take it , this cabin is an old guard station out in our district. Is the location currently in a Wilderness Area ? Is the structure still standing, or was it burnt down like so many others in our district?

I'm going to disqualify myself from this, since I kind of cheated.  I found where that picture was pulled from and am pretty sure I know what trail is being referenced. If I'm right, this building is/was on district territory, and I'm thinking it is still there?  I know buildings near where it is that were built in the same general time frame are still there.

It is in a wilderness free location, and yes, the FS surplused the property into the atmoshere.   D.

So this surplused property is near current district trails or abandoned ones? I haven't seen this structure before, so I am assuming that it was released into the atmosphere prior to my arrival into the district. Don

This trail is actually in a neighboring district, but the only access is from our district. It is a current trail with a destination you see in the photo.

That would be correct. The trail is also in a wilderness area, though not one of the new ones.

Are we looking at Mt Mitchell center, Signal Buttes to the right, and are you on a trail? And McLaughlin Blvd does not run to the top of it?
