The trail that heads south from Pup Creek Falls to Whalehead and points south? Let's just call it Pup Creek Trail.   D 2   winner. I followed traces of this trail up the hill til I was tired of climbing. Too bad it's been logged and gone up ontop of the hill

dscf0088.jpg   OK then. What trail was I on? Amazingly it's been ten years.   D 2

The lower part of Cripple Creek?
D
Pretty good guess. It does kinda look like a view from of the pipeline grade. (The pipeline for construction of the pipeline). But also, no, it's not.   D 2

The railroad grade at Three Lynx?
D
That's also a pretty good guess. But no, not at Three Lynx. But both you guys are on the right exposure.   D 2

How about the Sounds of Two Rivers Trail?
D
BINGO!   Yes. On the knifey ridge.   D 2

I had to go back to your original posting, "Amazingly it's been ten years.", to get the clue. I haven't known you for ten years, so it was a prior find. And the second clue, "both of you guys are on the right exposure". So I figured it must be in the canyon on a southern exposure and it wasn't Cripple Creek and it didn't look like Dry Ridge, so that only left  the Sounds. That part of the trail is one of my favorites, as is the bench area. I'm usually looking up the Roaring River towards the South Fork on that section of trail instead of looking down the Roaring River and over towards Dry Ridge. Good one D 2! I'll have to get back to you when I can find a photo to post, probably in the morning. Don

IMG_1089.jpgSorry it took forever for me to post a photo, had to really dig for this one of another abandoned trail in the district. Don

Is that taken from the front porch? What a pretty place to watch the world go by.   D 2
D
A virtual porch maybe! Wouldn't it be nice to have a trail cam mounted nearby. I have always wondered what it would have been like at that guard station back in the day. Don

Are you at Alder Swamp?  I've not been there yet and don't recall if there was a cabin there.
D
Bingo! That was too easy. There was a guard station along the trail that was later used as a shelter at least according to the maps. I have never seen a photo of the original  building, but I'm sure there are some in the archives of the FS. Not much left to be seen of any structure, but pieces of a wood store and other debris litter the site, as well as wire stretched around most of the "swamp" to keep horses from  getting stuck in the muck. Your turn to post a photo! Don

Don: Didn't you take that photo when you showed me that trail a couple of years ago?  I remember how icy and frosty it was that day.  I've been back once or twice.  Neat place.

Good one Kirk! I have no clue where you are, except maybe around 4000' or higher for it looks like there are huckleberry bushes in the photo. Don

Rob, I checked the photo info it was taken Dec 26, 2009, not sure if that was when I took you out there or not it's been years since I have been there. Don

I don't know how that happened, but I think I'm all boxed in! Thank you IE! Don

This could be a lot of places but I'll make a wild guess to get things started - Rhododendron Creek.
