I've been really trying to get out to do one last high elevation hike before the snow comes on full force, but life and responsibilities keep getting in the way.  I'm thinking that I might be able to get out on Sunday, and the weather looks reasonable (at least at this point).  Does anyone know where the snow level is these days?  I've heard that snow may be as low as 3000' now.  I was thinking about doing the east end of the Red Lake trail, which is higher elevation and I'd like to try and go up to double peaks, but I'm guessing that is covered in snow now.  If I can get to Olallie, maybe I can still do most of the hike.  I don't mind hiking in some snow.

Any advice or suggestions?  Maybe I'll need to re-schedule this one for next year....

ODOT road cams usually tell the story at 4000' (pass level).

Ugh....not looking too good.  The government camp cam shows a fair amount of snow at 3950'.  Maybe things will get better before the weekend.  Either that or I'll need to head lower if I go out.  Thanks for the suggestions.

It's still early enough for a warm front to come thru and melt this stuff before winter comes in to stay.  Keep your eyes on the weather, you may get lucky.

Last weekend Cache Meadow was snow free but then that storm came thru this week...

Charles and I hiked into High Lake today and ran into snow in spots at 4000' and 3-4" at 4500' when we got to the lake. It was a nice day to get out on the trail, a little brisk early, but warmed up nicely. I hope those who could get out this weekend did, for we won't get too many more weekends like this.

Quite a difference from Olallie.....None to speak of at 4500 and only an 1-3" in spots at 6000'!

Eric and I hiked up to Fish Creek Mountain yesterday but we didn't start out until around 1:30 in the afternoon.  What time were you guys at High Lake?

Charles and I were up at the lake around 11am. We hiked up and finished cutting out on our way down. The trail will need some tread work and some more brushing out, but is looking better each time we go up there. We were back down at the brewery by 3:30, to finish watching the Packers get nailed by the Vikings. You and Eric must have come up the direct route, we can in otherwise.
