Whitewater Bridge trail?
P
Does anyone know anything about a trail going uphill from the old closed road at Whitewater Bridge? Whitewater is the bridge just downstream of the Powerhouse at 3 Lynx. There is an old road that goes to an old fish stocking pipe and I think the old bridge. There is pink flagging going uphill (pretty steep)to the south and I suspect connects with the Clackamas River trail. Don't know if this is an official trail or what's going on. No signage but obviously a constructed trail.

Yes, that is the CRT connector trail. The forest service even maintains it. It's too bad they took out the gate last year and bermed it, it was a great place to park.

An access route for trail work. Not spose to be so obvious. But hard to avoid when a wilderness trail runs along side a highway.

Thanks guys. Is it new? I don't remember it there last year at all or maybe it wasn't flagged?
B
The flagging was added within the last two years by a forest service volunteer. Just so happens that I first met him while he was brushing out that connector trail.

One more question...why a connector trail there? Doesn't seem very far from the Indian Henry trailhead.
B
It's the closest hwy access to the center of the trail for lugging work equip.

When you've been beating your self to death with a misery whip and an ax to clear the trail any short cut back to the truck is welcome.
The flags are lame tho. A guy should always know where he's going. And where he's at.
We were encouraged to keep the access as obscure as possible, vary the scramble up, etc., so that it would not become a trail. And poorly conceived one at that.

Well that makes sense to cut off some trail time. Have to say I didn't notice it all last year and I was in there pretty regularly late summer. Flagging at the road really tipped it off this year when I was in there before a lot of leaves came in.
