Site changes
R
In the constant effort to improve the performance of this site, I made a few changes this morning to use a new caching mechanism that claims to make radical improvements in performance. In doing so, I had to make some other configuration changes - if you notice anything that is broken, please reply to this posting or send an email to webmaster@trailadvocate.org
I would also like to know if anything thinks the site is snappier now. It seems to be to be a bit faster than it was, but I'd like to get other input.
B
It does seem faster now - even pages with a lot of pictures from trip reports etc.

B
Yes the NWS pinpoint reports are very useful and adding them to your site moves you closer to 'one stop shopping'.

It may load photos better, but I liked it better before. I don't think I'm alone here, it is just no one has said so. I use a tablet more nowdays then my PC, but I think something has gone astray.

I use a tablet more nowdays then my PC, but I think something has gone astray. What is it about the new format that has "gone astray"? All I did recently was to change the caching of the site, to attempt to make it display faster. I made no changes to WHAT it displays. I thought, based on previous comments that the new site theme was much more friendly to phones and tablets. If there are usability issues, I can't try and fix them if I don't know about them. Please elaborate.

After I got the feel for the mobile version, it's become friendly to use.
I was worried at first that it wouldn't display the most recent forum posts, but fortunately it does. It's just one page in, instead of on the front. Since it loads so much faster now, that extra click isn't that big of a hassle.
The old standard site took a bit to load on even the newest iphone, using a T3 internet, broadcast through multiple Apple AirPort Extreme routers. Simply put, it wasn't the equipment, but the site.

Thanks for the feedback - And Don, I'm serious - if there are things about the new look that aren't working for you, please let me know. I want the site to be useful for everyone, otherwise it is a poor use of my time to work on it.
