Does anyone know the who, what, when, where or why Chatter Creek, a tributary of the Roaring River, was renamed to Cougar Creek. Chatter seems a bit more clever than Cougar, since it feeds into the Roaring River. I noticed the Chatter Creek name on the 1927 Mt. Hood Topo map.

No idea, though most of the maps were made in D.C. or other faraway places.  The name went back and forth a couple times, but seems to have settled on Cougar.
