There used to be a Guard Station there. But the power lines, the quarry which may have been for the rail grade altered the area. There is an old table up on the knoll between the road and the clearing.

There is old writings about that spot. Clyde Rice (?) book I think.

What we use to get to the top of the clearing now was kind of there before. I couldn't decide if it was old CRT, on that side then, or to do with quicksilver mine or the station. there has been a lot of activity around there.

I did see the GS on the '16 map.  It looks like the road wiped it out, depending on how accurate the old map is.  Such a busy place, hard to believe it was once so quiet.

Was this the Clyde Rice in question?

Looks like two books might fit the bill:  A Heaven in the Eye or Nordi's Gift.

Also, what is this talk of a mine?  There is a mine up the sounds trail somewhere?

Yes. I believe he was describing a picnic outing with a wife or girlfriend and her family.

It has been a while since reading.

I wouldn't read them again.
